Solidarisches Gesundheitszentrum in Lübeck
FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
What is a solidarity-based healthcare centre?
A health centre founded on the principles of solidarity should provide multi-professional care for everyone. This includes not only medical care but also social work, support with everyday challenges, counseling services in various areas, and community-focused initiatives. By fostering close cooperation and regular exchange between these fields, we aim to collaboratively find the best solutions, treatments, or guidance for our users.
In the future, the Solidarity Health Centre will serve as a hub for learning, connection, and exchange. It will not only be a place for professionals to provide care but also a space for local residents, initiatives, and associations to participate actively. Together, we can shape and sustain a health centre rooted in solidarity.
How does a counseling session work?
You can contact us by phone during our office hours or via email, and we will arrange an appointment with you. Counseling is available at our premises, but we can also visit you at home or another location if needed.
During the session, you will have ample time to share your concerns, and together we will work on finding solutions. Our team is professionally trained and experienced, and we are happy to share our knowledge with you. We are well-versed in Lübeck's social and political networks and can make referrals to other services when necessary.
We are here to guide and advise you, but the decisions about next steps remain entirely yours. Counseling is available in German and English, and we can arrange for language mediators if other languages are needed.
Sometimes a single consultation is enough, while other situations may require multiple meetings. If a solution initially seems to work but later proves unsuitable, you are always welcome to reach out to us again.
We are committed to creating a framework that is as inclusive and non-discriminatory as possible. Our advice is impartial and focused on your best interests.
What is interdisciplinary collaboration?
At the Solidarity Health Centre, we prioritize multi-professional collaboration. Professionals from different fields work closely together, sharing information and insights to address concerns from multiple perspectives. Co-counseling with various specialists is available upon request, depending on your needs.
Is Medical Counseling and Treatment Possible Without Valid Health Insurance?
Although health insurance is mandatory in Germany, there are situations where individuals might not not be covered. You can still access medical advice from us, and together we will explore which treatments are available and how they can be accessed.
We do not share any data or information with the police.
Do I Have to Pay for Counseling?
All our counseling services are completely free of charge. We offer counseling in German and English, and translation services for other languages can be arranged.
How Do You Finance Yourselves?
We currently rely on donations and foundations grants. We are actively applying for additional fundingto support the growth of the Solidarity Health Centre and expand our services.
We also welcome donations and supporting members to help sustain and develop our work.
Why Do You Need Supporting Members?
Supporting members contribute through membership fees, which help us fill financial gaps. To apply for larger funding grants, we are often required to provide our own financial contribution. Membership fees and donations from supporting members make this possible and enable us to continue our mission.

What Does It Mean to Work Collectively?
We are currently a small team of seven people. Each of us specializes in certain aspects of the project based on our training and experience, with corresponding responsibilities. In addition to counseling and care, our tasks include public relations, financial planning, bookkeeping, IT management, expanding services, and other duties related to self-administration.
We hold a joint plenary session every two weeks, alongside smaller, specialized meetings. Our cooperation is based on grassroots democratic, solidarity-driven, and self-organized principles. This reflects a conscious political decision to break away from the conventional norms of hierarchical work organization.
Why Do You Have a Statute?
Our statute defines the framework of our collective and governs how we work together. It sets out guidelines for key aspects of our working conditions, including:
- Collective membership
- Remuneration
- Holidays
- Decision-making processes
Importantly, the statute establishes the collective as the ultimate decision-making authority, rather than the board of directors, as is common in traditional organizations.
All individuals active within the Solidarity Health Centre commit to adhering to the principles and content outlined in the statute.
