Solidarity Health Centre in Lübeck

Introduction to the Project

Health is a state influenced by both individual and societal circumstances, and health care is a fundamental human right. When health becomes a commodity, health care is prioritized only where it is profitable. As a result, people living in poverty receive less adequate care, face more frequent health issues, and have a shorter life expectancy.

We are creating a self-organized community health centre in Lübeck. This space is designed to enhance the quality of life in our district by providing fair and holistic health care. Our health centre operates without competition or profit motives. Instead, it aims to be a hub where locals can meet, connect, and find solutions to their individual challenges.

Our multiprofessional team includes social workers, as well as psychological, medical, and nursing staff. We offer individual counseling and treatment while also supporting the formation of self-help groups and grassroots movements to improve local living conditions.

The community health centre also views itself as a political actor, advocating for social justice and actively opposing discrimination, sexism, racism, antisemitism, antiziganism, and fascism.

The Solidarity Health Centre is supported by the Poliklinik-Syndikat, a network of other  health centres in Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, Freiburg, Köln, Jena, and Leipzig, with additional projects planned to join in the future. The group’s work is guided by the principles of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (1986):

“Health is created and lived by people within the settings of their everyday life; where they learn, work, play and love. Health is created by caring for oneself and others, by being able to make decisions and have control over one's life circumstances, and by ensuring that the society one lives in creates conditions that allow the attainment of health by all its members.”

This collaboration and exchange of knowledge and experience inspires us to persevere and guides us through the daily steps of realizing our project.

Project Goals

Our goal is to holistically improve the quality of life in our community. We are not a charity. Instead, we are a project committed to actively engaging locals in social, psychological, medical, political, and care work. To achieve this, we support people with the expertise of a diverse and dedicated team.
